Tiempos
del Mundo is an international
newspaper serving the nations
of Latin America. Written and
edited in the predominant language
of the region, it is building
an influential readership across
the Western Hemisphere.
Tiempos del Mundo has established
itself as one of Latin America's
most respected publications for
international news analysis and
business commentary. In recognition
of its third anniversary, the
Presidents of Brazil, Mexico,
Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay,
Uruguay, Honduras, Panama, Dominican
Republic and The United States
each sent their congratulations
and lent their support for the
vision of Tiempos
del Mundo into the twenty-first
century.
Tiempos
del Mundo
was officially inaugurated in
Buenos Aires on November 23, 1996.
More than 600 dignitaries attended
the event, representing all sectors
of society. Under a banner which
read "The Americas in the
Twentieth Century," former
President George Bush spoke at
length on the importance of the
family and the success of the
process of democratization that
is transforming Latin America.

The vision behind
Tiempos del Mundo was then
eloquently presented in
a message delivered by the
founder.
-With
the end of the Cold War,
a renewed hope for peace
and justice has rapidly
spread around the globe.
This new newspaper, which
connects North and South
America, should help these
close neighbors pioneer
the new era by being models
for world peace through
mutual harmony, assistance
and respect.

Tiempos
del Mundo is transmitted via satellite
from Buenos Aires to 17 countries in Latin
America, New York City, and Washington DC.
The newspaper is unique because it combines
local and international news in each issue.
The local section is individually prepared
for each nation and is devoted to its local
politics and culture. The international section
contains indepth business, financial and policy
reviews on a continental basis, along with
an award-winning family section addressing
the issues of modern family life. This allows
Tiempos del Mundo
to be relevant to the people of each nation
without losing its appeal as an international
news source.
The newspaper's innate sense of fairness
and even-handed approach to news reporting
is evidenced by the fact that in 1999 Nicaragua's
two professional journalists associations
- the left-of-center Union of Journalists
and the right-of-center Association of Journalists
- both awarded Tiempos
del Mundo their
highest awards for journalistic excellence.
Other awards and recognition have been bestowed
on the Tiempos
del Mundo papers
in Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Paraguay and Panama
by UNESCO, The Republic of Paraguay, the UN
High Commission for Refugees, and numerous
national cultural organizations. |
